Background: A Singapore investment holding company obtained a summary judgment of SGD 6.8 million against a Chinese borrower who had defaulted on a cross-border loan facility. The debtor had relocated to Shanghai and transferred significant assets there.

Challenge: Speed was critical — the debtor was actively restructuring its Shanghai-based operations, raising the risk that assets would be moved before enforcement could take effect.

Strategy: We leveraged the Sino-Singapore bilateral judicial assistance treaty. We prepared and filed the recognition application within two weeks of instruction, and simultaneously filed for pre-judgment property preservation, freezing the debtor’s bank accounts and real estate holdings in Shanghai.

Outcome: The Shanghai intermediate court recognized the Singapore judgment in just under eight months. The pre-judgment preservation order held the assets in place, and post-recognition execution recovered the full judgment amount within three additional months.
